Hand Therapy: Our Occupational Therapists specialize in the treatment of elbows, wrist, and hand disorders.
Treatment may include custom hand splint fabrication, use of modalities, massage, strengthening exercises
and home exercise instruction and training. Conditions that benefit from Occupational Therapy intervention
include carpal tunnel syndrome, wrist or elbow fractures, tendonitis, repetitive motion injuries, and tendon
lacerations. Our therapists work in conjunction with local physicians, as well as Board Certified Hand Surgeons
from outside our community, to coordinate your care and diminish the need for long distance travel for
specialized hand therapy care following an injury or surgery.

Neurological Rehabilitation: Disorders such as stroke, multiple sclerosis, parkinson's disease and dementia
all benefit from Occupational Therapy treatment. Our Therapists focus on the development of hand movement
and arm strength that is necessary to complete daily tasks. They also evaluate and upgrade thinking, visual
and perceptual skills. Treatment activities might include neuromuscular re-education, balance, strengthening,
activities of daily living retraining, table top and home activities all designated to address areas of
weakness and improve function. Our final goal is that each patient is able to reach their highest level
of safety and independence within the scope of their disease process.

Activities of Daily Living: Any illness or injury can interrupt one's ability to care for themselves and
perform work, home and leisure tasks. Specific relearning of activities of daily living such as dressing,
bathing, writing and cooking are all incorporated into treatment, as well as learning how to use adaptive
equipment when needed. This can vary from an elderly women who sustains a hip fracture who needs to be
independent with dressing to return home, to an office worker who is recovering from carpal tunnel surgery
that wants to return to work. Our therapists work with each patient to modify ways to complete a task to
increase safety or independence, often with the adaptive techniques or equipment. Many times we also assess
the home or office environment to suggest modifications that will enable independence or improve safety as
people return to their prior level of independence.
